We live in a world where accusations become fact. The Sikh Temple in Roseville was the site of an organized protest on Sunday June 3rd. The protesters carried signs saying Grooming Gangs Out and of course American flags. I went to one of them and tried to have a conversation. He said he wanted photos released of the suspects and that he knew they were Sikhs and many Sikhs were bad. I looked at him again, and said did he know I was running for the superior court for Placer County and on the ballot on June 5th? He said yes, and that he and others were organizing social media to support the other candidates instead.
As to social media and groups, the nuts in Placer County did come out and point out false things about me. They objected to my having blacks, Latinos, Asians and of course brown people on my website under northern Californians. Did not matter that they were judges or lawyers or leaders in their communities. The Republicans first endorsed me as a Republican in the judicial race, then started pushing the supervisors to declare that Placer County was not a sanctuary county. I asked them to cancel their endorsement, and instead they put out that they were rescinding the endorsement. Instead they decided the Democrat, who was a Commissioner, was going to be the candidate who they would vote for – the Republicans in Placer County voted for a Democrat for Judge! Amazing. You know there is a problem when a city councilman who has known me for many years, before he was elected, was getting heat for endorsing me for judge. He told everyone he knew me, supported me, and thought I was the best for the position of judge since I was the one candidate who was a local lawyer, had tried cases in the local courts, and was obviously qualified having served as a judge pro tem in the Roseville Courthouse when it opened.
You live and learn. The Sikhs at the water park have. In politics, they will make up stuff to support their unconscious and sometimes overt bias. Nobody knew what would have happened had the men in the Sunsplash story got convicted. Sikhs would not tolerate one of them being a criminal and would have denounced anyone from the community who did such a crime. However, Sikhs in Roseville didn’t expect to get identified as human traffickers and dangerous because they have beards. Who knows why some women at the water park on Memorial Day suspected them of molesting young women. We may never know who make the false accusations. The men will have to deal with immigration and report to their prospective employers that they were never charged, but did two nights in jail and were arrested for possible serious felonies on Memorial Day 2018 in Roseville, California. Wow. This is not the America we want to live in - and live in fear.
